BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION FC TRIAL DATES

Albion's Academy is inviting applications for open trials.

Talented young footballers are being asked to attend an open trial which could see them embark on a journey which ends with the

Brighton & Hove Albion FC first team.

Albion in the Community (AITC) is the Seagulls’
official charity but it also runs an array of high quality coaching centres across Sussex, aimed  at improving the standard of football throughout the county.

And part of its work is identifying and nurturing
local talent at specialist sessions which sit directly under the Albion’s own academy.

The Seagulls run an academy programme for
young players aged between 9 and 16 and have seen a number of prospects progress to the first team, including Lewis Dunk and Jake Forster-Caskey.

AITC runs a feeder programme into the club’s official
academy, the highest of which is the Elite Centre.

There, players benefit from weekly expert coaching in line with the academy’s philosophy at the Albion’s state-of-the-art training complex in Lancing. They also play matches against sides from similar programmes at rival professional clubs during the  school holidays, which last year included the likes of Premier League clubs Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City.

It is the highest standard of football outside the club’s

academy structure and has an impressive track record.

In the 2014/15 season 28 players from the programme

    received trials at professional clubs.

As well as the Elite Centre, AITC also runs invitation

centres for other young footballers. These invite-only

sessions are designed to provide a pathway for local

players from park football to academy level.

Brighton & Hove Albion's Academy is inviting

applications for open trials for this season's

under-12 and under-14 boys' teams at the

American Express Elite Football Performance Centre.

You must be in either of the under-12 or under-14

year groups and register your interest to take part

in the trials, which will run from 1pm until 4pm on the

    two respective dates.

At the end of each season players from the Invitation and

Elite Centre are also given the chance to participate

in a European tour to experience playing competitive

football against different styles and cultures. This

season the teams came home with an impressive

six trophies, with the U16s still to attend the Denmark

    Cup in Copenhagen.

There are also development centre sessions held

by AITC across Sussex providing expert coaching

    to hundreds of young people.

The AITC system is very fluid. Players can move

between the different centres, meaning none of the

youngsters disappear from the radar. They certainly aren’t just forgotten.

As Dave Green, the charity’s football development

manager, says, it isn’t just about unearthing the next superstar.

He explained: “We offer a unique opportunity within

the professional game for local youth players to

develop new technical and tactical skills and

knowledge while continuing to play for their local grassroots club.

“We don’t want to take people away from their club –

far from it. The number of young players who make

it from a professional academy is small but we

want to help local young players make the best of

their ability. That might be creating a pathway to the

club’s official academy, or it might be helping them

develop so they can play at Ryman League level

rather than Sussex County League when they are older.”

With the new season approaching, AITC is now looking

to identify players for its Elite Centre and Invitation

Centres and is inviting talented youngsters to a free

trial day at the American Express Elite Football

    Performance Centre in Lancing.

The trials are open to players currently in the

    under-8s to under-13s age groups.
